Yo

I mowed the lawn after work, then fell asleep. Evangelical Sopranos is still the hot topic. I guess adding Tony Soprano, Jesus, and Creationism together is interesting. Go figure.

I'm going back to sleep, and tomorrow will wake up and it will be Good Friday. My church does not celebrate it because one of the pastors is convinced Jesus was crucified on Wednesday. Whatever. We all celebrate the ressurection of Jesus, and celebrate the atonement then.

I've long found that odd, this universal Christian emphasis of Easter over Good Friday. The ressurection is great, and I certainly do not want to minimize it at all. Christ's victory over death is a big, big deal. Nonetheless, there's one Greek word in John's gospel that is, I think, the most important word in history. "It is finished," in English, signals the completion of the atonement and the reconciliation of God and mankind. The great curtain in the Temple is ripped open, and God dwells in his people forever. That moment is the reason for history at all, becuase it was for Christ and in Christ we were created.

So Good Friday is Atonement Day. Judgement Day. THE day. The rest (of history) is just details.

So I'll use the toilet now, go back to sleep, and tomorrow wake up and go to work. When I get home I'll eat and watch TV. Just like last year. I need groceries, so maybe a trip to Walmart will differ the day from last year. Like most all people ever, I will waste the opportunity to celebrate the reconciliation of God and man: our entire ontology.

But I just spent six minutes considering this, and for that I more fortunate than most.

Madness!

Today is Good Friday. We are having a 'Good Friday' brunch in about 21 minutes and then we are going with the other churchs in town for a community-wide worship service.

I did not realize how much more important today is over Sunday until a few days ago. I was talking about what I wanted to accomplish this Friday and learned NOTHING would be open. Not even the mall or Wal-Mart. I commented in front a church memeber that I found that odd. She quickly jumped to say that it is more important to celebrate Christ's death.

I finally found myself thinking how I needed to rethink how I celebrate the time of year. After a bit of meditating on it, I came to the conclusion: Today is 'Good Friday'! Let's Celebrate!

So that's how to spell you name?!?!

Just kidding. Sort of.

I'm reluctant to call either Good Friday or Easter more important than the other, as long as we celebrate the atonement on one or the other.

I hope you're enjoying the wide open spaces, Stacy. You have a mall?

Remember kids, to read your Ockhamist even if you expatriate!

Madness!
